About Seattle Art Museum
Founded in 1933, the Seattle Art Museum (SAM) has been a cornerstone of the city's cultural landscape for nearly a century. Located in the heart of downtown Seattle, SAM is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and presenting works of art from around the world and across time periods.
The museum's main building, designed by renowned architect Robert Venturi, opened in 1991 and has since undergone several expansions to accommodate its growing collections and programs. With over 25,000 works of art, SAM's collection spans ancient to contemporary art, including pieces from Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
Seattle Art Museum is committed to making art accessible to everyone. Through its innovative exhibitions, educational programs, and community initiatives, SAM seeks to inspire curiosity, dialogue, and connection through the power of art.
